Tootsie Roll Industries
Tootsie Roll Industries began in 1896 when Leo Hirshfield opened a tiny candy shop in New York City. He sold a variety of products along with an oblong piece of chewy chocolate candy, individually wrapped-the Tootsie Roll. The Tootsie Roll, sold at a penny a piece, was named after Hirschfield’s daughter whose nickname was Tootsie and propelled the store to success. Today, Tootsie Roll Industries has grown to become one of the country’s largest candy companies. Tootsies brands include: Tootsie Roll, Tootsie Pop, Charms Blow Pop, Double Bubble, Charleston Chew, Junior Mints, and more.
